Baby basics
How to choose a stroller: types and what to check
The right stroller depends on where you live and how you get around.
Types
- Full-size: comfortable, good storage, often works with an infant car seat.
- Travel or compact: light and folds small; good for cars and public transport.
- Jogging: larger wheels and suspension; check the manufacturer's minimum age for running.
- Double: side-by-side or tandem for two children.
Specs to compare
- Weight of the stroller and maximum child weight
- Folded dimensions and whether it folds one-handed
- Seat recline and age range from birth
- Car seat compatibility
- Basket capacity
Safety
Look for a five-point harness and reliable brakes. Strollers sold in the US must meet the federal safety standard (16 CFR 1227).
Try the fold
If possible, watch a demo of the fold before you buy.
